Construction-Video Editing

I went to to edit my video in Adobe Premiere Pro. To do this I places all of my clips into the media box, to establish which clips are good the use. Many clips had the be cut down a bit to get rid of the start or the break down a long video etc to pick out a good point.

For example, the video clip i started with was my starting seqeunce that panned over the charcaters desk. This video was originally 14.14 seconds, due to taking time getting the focus right before i started the music and recording more then needed. However, as seen below, i used the in/out sequence technique to create a snippet of the video to 5.13 seconds. I then dragged this into my sequence of my video, with my music, and started to repeat this action until i had all my clips out together in the right order, going in the order of the storyboard.

I then created transitions of fading between each clip. To do this i went to the effects page and into the "Video transitions" subheading. i then looked into what each transitions did and how it made the clips smoothly run together. For most clips, i used dissolving transitions like "additive dissolve" "cross dissolve" and "film dissolve". However for certain clips, like the flashback, I needed to use different transitions to show that the storyline is differnt and is a different day, so the audience doesn't get confused.
To do this, i used the "Dip to black" transition when the photo ablum clip goes into the flash back picture. I then used the "Dip to white" to show the flashbakc ending. I used this technique a few times in my video editing, whenever the video went back and forward to the getting ready and the 'party scene'.

In some clips I had to edit the colour or the curves etc to make the exposure better or make the brightness better. The most effective colour change i used was the flashback being black and white. In order to do this, I went to the effect page again and suched black&white in the search bar.  Then the filter came up in the image control heading, as shown in the screenshot. I dragged this effect on top of the video to make it black and white.

The screenshot below shows how this was effective as it creates an clear differnence between present and past. It makes the clip look more interesting and keeps the audience gribbed on.

My next step was creating a spilt screen. To do this i created a new sequence. i then dfollowee the next steps.
  1. I imported the two clips into the same sequence.
  2. I kept the video i wanted on the left on the bottom, and the one to bring in on the top.
  3. I went into effects and looked for the crop effect.
  4. Dragged this on to the top footage.
  5. Went up to effect controls and find the crop effect. Went to the left property and activated the animation by clicking on the stop watch.
  6. I then moved it forward about 10 frames. Bring the left to 50%. This will bring it in half way.
  7. Right click on the keyframes
  8. Finally i went to the effects of the bottom footage, up to motion, and then position. Started the animation at the beginning of the transition. Moved forward to when the animation stops, and center the footage in it’s new box.

Lastly, i created my title to go on opening sequence. To do this i created a new sequnec and went to legacy title. I Then added my "Sue me" writing in a bright pink colour and made this centra.
I then dragged this onto the opening clip in the sequence so it was on the V2.
This made the writing on the original video background. I then went onto making the title slide in and out.

Construction - Final music Video and evaluation

Here is my final video edit of my music video. As mentioned before, the equipment used in this task was a Nikon D3500 camera with a dolly to try to create smooth moving. The camera settings were on Auto to make sure the exposure stayed okay due to the light changing outside- the ISO was set to 200.

Like the first day of filming, I found quite a few problems when creating the final video. On the first day, I couldn’t film half of my video due to half of my actors pulling out the day before filming, leaving me with only three people.  I tried to get some more actors in time for my second shoot day, however I found. That people were very unreliable and unwilling to help. This meant that again I didn’t have enough people for a [party scene. I really like the storyline so I just changed the “party to a small gathering” in which her ex-girlfriend was at. I also had to change the story from a girl and boy relationship to a lesbian relationship due to not being able to get a boy. However this worked out well as it created more diversity and shows love in different forms is ok.
The final video could have improved more if we had higher quality equipment. For example, due to filming in a bedroom with carpet, the dolly was getting caught and wasn’t running smoothly. If we had a Steady Cam, the clips wouldn't have been so shaky.
Next step was editing. This is one thing I would change about my video, due to not being to best at editing or knowing much about premier pro. I was able to make the clips run smoothly into each other, which was one part of my first edit that I didn’t like, and create good transitions like the dipping to black to show the video going into a black and white flashback and then dipping bac to white as if the main character is finished thinking back on the memory. One part of editing that I am proud of is my split screen at 1.26. I had to research how to create this split screen and just trial and error it until I figured it out. I believe this clip worked well and added a bit of diversity in the editing, then just clips put together.
On part of editing I would have liked to improve would be the lighting. I didn’t know how to make the party scene look more dark or add, flashing lights, which I would have liked to do.
In my first draft evaluation I said that “One thing I could have done better on my editing was creating better title and credits pages.” In my final edit I believe I have done this, by creating a “sue me” title that floats in., and a credit page that shows the logos and more. This draws on from my Statement of Intent “Media Industry will be presented in my opening and ending credits through intertextuality of the artist by using a similar opening to the original video and the logo of the artist.”
One positive is the video has many cases of direct mode of addresses in which the main character is looking into the camera and lip-syncing. This looked really effective in the video as it creates a link with the audience as if they are really there. This can be seen at 0.12. I also had a variety of shots showing extreme close ups, full shots, mid shots and wide shots.
I believe my video highlights the media language that I wanted to portray, as shown in my Statement of Intent. Firstly, I have shown media language through the use of bright colours to present a happy mood and shows the girls is a counter-stereotype of a girl in a breakup. I believe my narrative (Todorov) should appeal to an 'aspirer' audience. The theory on 'The asiprer' by Young and Rubicam says about materialistic people who are "driven by others' perceptions". This is how my main character draws confidence from the way her Ex is missing her etc.

Construction - First draft music video and evaluation

I found quite a few problems when filming my video. For Example, half of my actors pulled out the day before filming, leaving me with only three people. This meant that I could not film half of my scenes as I was meant to do a party scene.
The final video could have improved more if we had higher quality equipment. For example, due to filming in a bedroom with carpet, the dolly was getting caught and wasn’t running smoothly. If we had a Steady Cam, the clips wouldn't have been so shaky.
I had already figured out most of the angles when drawing my storyboard. So, once I had set up my set with props, lighting and speakers etc I just had to figure out if they are good angles and shots.
One thing I would change about my video is the editing. Due to not being to best at editing, some of my clips don’t smoothly run into each other. One positive about my transitions is the dipping to black to show the video going into a black and white flashback and then dipping bac to white as if the main character is finished thinking back on the memory.

One good thing about my video is that I liked how I was able to slow certain bits down in order to add different effects.

Construction – website draft design

This is the homepage of my draft website where the audience is introduced to the musician which is Maya Hart. I decided to have a pink background as it fits into the image of my artist. When I was looking, I found a pink sugar background which I thought was cute and simple. According to the colour theory pink is the colour of universal love of oneself and of others, representing friendship, affection, harmony, inner peace, and approachability. I then have my titles of the artist, single etc of pink font on white rectangles. White means safety, purity, and cleanliness, it is considered to be the colour of perfection. The use of connection of two bright colour’s show emotions of softness and purity.
The photograph of the artist on website is a simple ‘selfie’ of my artist using a direct mode of address making the viewers feel a sense of love and welcomeness.
My homepage also includes a navigation bar with the subheadings; 'Home' 'Tour Dates' 'About' 'Latest Merch' and 'Behind the Scenes'. The navigation bar is an important element of a website's design since it allows users to quickly visit any section within the site. A website without a navigation bar, may make it difficult to locate the page you need.

For my title’s I used the fonts 'Georgia' ‘Belinda’ and ‘Cookie’ as they was curvy and bold to stand out and look more modern compared to other fonts as seen on website research task. ‘Cookie’ is a font like the title in my video which is why ‘Sue Me’ is in that font.

My text page is a list of the tour date of my artist, showing how she travelling all over Europe to interact with her fans. This gives the audience the opportunity to see where they can meet my artist.
I then when on to do an about page. In this page there is a small biography about my artist along side a picture of her. This picture I made on photoshop, using a photo on the Brit awards red carpet and my artist dress up in a formal dress. I then quick-selected Natalia and copied her over to the carpet, then blurred around the image to make it look more realistic. My last page is my Behind the scenes page, showing a bloopers video and photos of the music video. On this page I used the font ‘Belinda’ to create a sense of continuity in my website.

Construction- Website Final Design

https://hannahcannellx.wixsite.com/mayahartmusic

There isn’t much change from my draft website design to my final website shown above. This is because I felt that the original website was very detailed and fit the image of my artist. However, there was some small changes made to make the website look more professional and interesting.
The original webpage opened to a photograph of the artist. This photograph was a simple ‘selfie’ of my artist using a direct mode of address making the viewers feel a sense of love and welcomeness. After evaluating my first draft, I felt that this image was too boring alone and didn’t create the “wow” factor I wanted my website to create from the first look. So instead I went to take more images of my artist and create a small montage of 4 images. These images show the artist to have a fancy and fun life with the top two picture, yet presents an ordinary girl in the bottom two.
I then decided to add movements to my pictures and titles. The first picture on the top left uses the animation of “glide-in”, the top right uses
“expand-in”, the bottom left uses “reveal” and lastly the bottom right uses “turn in”. These animations make the website more active and attention grabs the audience as soon as they turn onto the site. I then made my titles on my front page “float in” so that when the audience scroll down they appear one by one.
My next change was on my last page, “Behind the scenes”. This page shows a bloopers video and photos of the music video. However,  added to my final edit the final video of “Sue Me “ and the preliminary task video.
I believe my website is consistent and presents the image of my artist very well. This pink theme is seen on every page, highlighting the intertextuality of Legally Blonde and Mean Girls “on Wednesdays we wear pink”
This intertextuality is also seen in my “Latest Merch”. I made these images on photoshop, by quick selecting my logo and pasting onto plain images of clothes and iphone cases. I then would pick fonts to make the “Sue Me” look like that “Belinda” font in the website and video. When adding these products to my site, I wanted to highlight that they were unisex, even though they were pink- and to have them available in a variety of sizes. The reason I wanted to shoe that the products were unisex was to present how the stereotype of pink being a ‘girls colours’ is wrong and that the colour theory of pink is the colour of universal love of oneself and of others, representing friendship, affection, harmony, inner peace, and approachability.
